Award Ceremony

Sustainable twist to retired Indian banknotes

Venlo-based Royal Dutch Kusters Engineering (KE) worked with the National Institute of Design (NID) in India to launch a competition called the ‘Value of Money’, where design students from all throughout India were challenged to come up with sustainable ideas for reusing retired banknotes. In the presence of bodies like the Indian Central Bank (RBI), the competition was launched last May by Vijay Rupani, Chief Minister for the Indian state of Gujarat (63 million inhabitants). A few months down the line, instead of selecting three winners like initially intended, a fourth winner has also been selected because the submitted ideas have been so innovative.

Prizes will be handed out during the Award Ceremony on 25 September at 5.00 p.m., when the winning ideas will also be made public. See for more details the poster which can be downloaded on top of this page.
